Digital laminate selection and care

Choose for the complete graphic

An overlaminate can help protect a compatible printed graphic from abrasion, dirt, moisture and handling, and can change its appearance. Protection from weather, UV exposure or chemicals depends on the exact product and finished graphic system.

Match the laminate construction, conformability, finish and expected service life to the print media, ink, surface and installation. Follow the manufacturer’s drying or curing instructions before laminating. For floors and windows, check the specific application requirements rather than choosing by finish alone.

Finish and moisture questions

What is the difference between gloss, matte and luster laminate?

Gloss has a shiny finish and can deepen the appearance of colors. Matte reduces glare and reflection. Luster falls between gloss and matte. Choose for the lighting, viewing conditions and appearance you want, then confirm the finish is available in a laminate compatible with your print media.

Does laminate make a printed graphic waterproof?

No. Laminate can improve moisture resistance, but it does not automatically waterproof the entire graphic. Exposed edges and seams, the print media, ink, adhesive and application surface still affect performance. Follow the instructions for the complete graphic system.

Lumina by FDC and ASLAN

Use the FDC laminate guide to compare cast, optically clear, economy and intermediate calendered, dry-erase and floor-graphic options. The examples below and the product grid lead to exact product details; confirm the roll size, finish and intended application before choosing.

MACtac

Compare the listed Colorgard LUV, Rayzor LF3600, PermaFlex floor overlaminates and PermaGard SAG38 products by exact grade and finish. Floor products have different indoor, outdoor, traffic and maintenance limits; check the selected product and the slip-resistance requirements for the completed installation.

The MACtac FAQ and manufacturer catalog also describe broader product families, not just the items in this collection. Contact us to check a specific product or size rather than assuming every catalog option is available.

3M overlaminates and protective films

Compare cast and intermediate overlaminates separately from application-specific sidewalk and removable surface-protection films. Use the exact 3M product details and current product and application bulletins to match the base film, ink, surface and installation. These examples are not interchangeable substitutes.

Catalogs, print media and selection help

The resources page includes the FDC Lumina, MACtac and 3M catalogs and the 3M Overlaminate Product Bulletin. Catalog ranges are broader than the products listed here and do not confirm current availability or compatibility.
