Textile Decoration FAQs
What is heat transfer vinyl?
Heat transfer vinyl, commonly called HTV, is a cuttable film used to decorate compatible garments and textiles. A vinyl cutter cuts the design, the excess material is weeded away, and heat and pressure are used to bond the remaining design to the fabric.
What fabrics can POLI-FLEX TURBO be applied to?
POLI-FLEX TURBO is suitable for many cotton, polyester, poly-cotton, polyester-acrylic, spandex and compatible nylon fabrics. Coatings, dyes and fabric construction can affect adhesion or cause dye migration, so test unfamiliar or temperature-sensitive garments before production.
Why use low-temperature heat transfer vinyl?
Low-temperature HTV can reduce heat marks, scorching and fabric damage on compatible temperature-sensitive garments. Lower-temperature application can also shorten pressing time and improve production efficiency when the manufacturer’s specified settings are followed.
What temperature, time and pressure should be used for HTV?
Application settings vary by HTV product and fabric. Use the manufacturer’s instructions for temperature, pressing time, pressure, peeling method and fabric compatibility. Do not assume that settings for one type of heat transfer vinyl will work correctly with another.
What is the difference between POLI-FLEX TURBO and POLI-FLEX PEARL GLITTER?
POLI-FLEX TURBO is a smooth polyurethane heat transfer vinyl designed for fast, lower-temperature application. POLI-FLEX PEARL GLITTER is a specialty film with a highly visible sparkling finish. Each product has its own fabric compatibility and application requirements.
Why does heat transfer vinyl peel after application?
HTV may peel because of insufficient or excessive temperature, incorrect pressure, inadequate pressing time, improper peeling, fabric coatings, moisture or incompatible material. Verify the heat press temperature and follow the instructions for the exact vinyl and garment.
Is a heat press better than a household iron for applying HTV?
A heat press provides more consistent temperature, pressure and coverage than a household iron. An iron may work for certain small craft applications, but a properly calibrated heat press is recommended for repeatable professional results.
