Substrates FAQs

Which sign substrate is best for outdoor signs?

Aluminum is commonly selected for durable outdoor signs because it does not rust and provides a smooth professional surface. Coroplast is often used for temporary outdoor signs, while rigid PVC may be suitable for certain sheltered or shorter-term applications. The correct choice depends on sign size, mounting method, wind exposure and expected lifespan.

What is Coroplast used for?

Coroplast is a lightweight corrugated-plastic substrate commonly used for yard signs, campaign signs, directional signs, temporary advertising and indoor displays. Its fluted construction allows compatible wire stakes to be inserted into the material for ground-mounted signs.

What is the difference between .040 and .063 aluminum?

A .063-inch aluminum blank is thicker and more rigid than a .040-inch blank. The lighter .040 material is commonly used for general signs, while .063 aluminum may be preferred when additional rigidity and durability are needed. Sign size, mounting and wind exposure should be considered.

Can sign vinyl be applied directly to aluminum, Coroplast or PVC?

Yes. Cut vinyl and compatible printable media can be applied to clean, smooth aluminum, Coroplast and rigid PVC surfaces. Remove dust, grease, manufacturing residue and other contamination before application. Adhesion should be tested when the surface or coating is uncertain.

Will magnetic sheeting stick to every vehicle?

No. Magnetic sheeting requires a clean, flat ferrous-steel surface. It will not hold to aluminum, fiberglass, plastic or body panels containing substantial filler. Test the actual vehicle surface before producing the sign and follow the material manufacturer’s care instructions.

What is Bandanna Banner material?

Bandanna Banner is banner material supplied on a roll with finished hems, thermo-welded seams and regularly spaced grommets. It is designed to simplify banner production and can be cut in two-foot increments while retaining grommets near the ends of each banner.
